Dec 4, 2010 @ 7:00 PM
ROBIN HENKEL/ALLEN SINGER--A NIGHT OF BI-COASTAL BLUES
TEMPLAR'S HALL
14132 MIDLAND ROAD
POWAY, California 92064
www.sdfolkheritage.org
Price: $18.00 SDFH MEMBERS-$15.00
ROBIN HENKEL/ALLEN SINGER

A NIGHT OF BI-COASTAL BLUES!

OPENING ACT: THE BAJA BLUES BOYS
( Tim Atkins,guitar, vocals/Andre Perreault harmonica, vocals)

Take San Diego's Finest blues man, Robin Henkel, combine him with Allen Singer, one of the top interpreters of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, American Root's/ Blue's music and you'll be part of an exciting, unforgettable evening of guaranteed delight.

From the early blues of the Mississippi Delta to the urban sound of Chicago's early blues bands, the western swing of Texas, jazz roots sounds and beyond... Robin Henkel plays from his musical soul, it's right there, out front like a musical heartbeat. Robin's been apart of the San Diego music scene for decades. He wants you to move your feet, feel the beat and have a place in his performances.
Robin plays blues, jazz, country swing, vintage rock and Latin music. He borrows from each of those styles when he performs and sometimes even surprises himself with the musical direction his songs take.
"I like playing music", he says. It just feels good. Henkel's creative strength explodes when he picks up that sawed-off pipe fitting and puts it on his baby finger and then lays it on the strings of his resonator or Dobro. All of a sudden the kid from Serra Mesa is transformed into the man from the Delta who commands everyone's attention. When Robin plays slide guitar and picks his resonators, he offers you a musical lifeline to the core of the blues. Robin Henkel is a one of a kind performer, who comes to play and entertain you. He's a man who sings and plays many musical styles, but always keeps close to the rhythms and heartfelt sounds of the blues. Robin's music breathes life into his audiences and is always a moving and live experience. Let the good times roll on and give yourself an evening gift of endless joy and fine music. You've got to experience the joys of Robin's playing, you'll be moved and very pleased to have been there.

Allen Singer played his first guitar chords during the 1960s folk revival(great folk scare) in New York City.
Allen plays guitar, harmonica and sings folk, blues, country, traditional music, old time, topical, cowboy/western and bluegrass music.
Allen said " that playing with Robin Henkel is like a return to the days of picking with the finest blues interpreters in Washington Square and many late night blues jams along the road of his ongoing musical odyssey!"

Allen Singer 's music is grounded in the songs of Woody Guthrie and his many musical children. American Root's and Blue's music play an important role in Allen's sets and performances.

He grew up listening to the music of The Carter Family, Jimmy Rodgers, The Almanac Singers, The Weavers, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Cisco Houston, Leadbelly, Brownie Mc Gee and Sonny Terry, Sam Hinton, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Dave Von Ronk, The New Lost City Ramblers, The Greenbriar Boys, Doc Watson, and Bob Dylan. At night he listened to WWVA, a country music station from Wheeling, West Virginia, where he got a chance to hear Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubbs, Hank Snow, Ralph Stanley, Flatt and Scruggs, Johnny Cash and Mother Maybelle Carter.

Allen Singer's last CD, "Down the Road," is available at CD Baby and eFolk Music. The new CD "Down the Road," takes you on a journey through American 20th century folk music, country blues, traditional and early country music. Starting with Woody Guthrie and ending with Bob Dylan. Along the way you'll hear the music of Jimmy Rodgers,The Delmore Brothers, Sam McGee, (Gov)Jimmy Davis, Johnny Cash and Harlan Howard. Listen to the songs and the music that set off the 1960's folk revival.

He leads the San Diego Folk Song Society, created in 1957 by Sam Hinton, a great American folk Singer, diatonic harmonica player and folklorist.

He's also Co-Vice Chairfolk and ass't booker at San Diego Folk Heritage, a concert producing organization in Southern California.

www SDFH@san.rr.com
Admission: $18 ($15 members)
Advance Ticket Sales: TicketWeb.com
7:00 pm
Templar's Hall, Old Poway Park
14134 Midland RD
Poway, CA
