FOLK SINGER/GUITARIST
Allen Singer plays guitar and sings folk, blues, country, traditional music, old time, topical, and bluegrass music.
Allen Singer 's music is grounded in the songs of Woody Guthrie and his many musical children like Bob Dylan. American Root's and Blue's music play an important role in Allen's sets and performances.
He grew up listening to the music of The Carter Family, Jimmy Rodgers, The Almanac Singers, The Weavers, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Cisco Houston, Leadbelly, Sam Hinton, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Dave Von Ronk, The New Lost City Ramblers, The Greenbriar Boys, Doc Watson, and Bob Dylan. At night he listened to WWVA, a country music station from Wheeling, West Virginia, where he got a chance to hear Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubbs, Hank Snow, Ralph Stanley, Flatt and Scruggs, Johnny Cash and Mother Maybelle Carter.
He played his first guitar chords during the 1960s folk revival in New York City. He flat and finger picks acoustic guitar and plays harmonica.

He leads the San Diego Folk Song Society, created in 1957 by Sam Hinton, a great American folk Singer, diatonic harmonica player and folklorist.
He's also Co-Vice Chairfolk and ass't booker at San Diego Folk Heritage, a concert producing organization in Southern California.
